The International Center on Nonviolent Conflict is an independent, nonprofit educational foundation that develops and encourages the study and use of civilian-based, nonmilitary strategies to establish and defend human rights, democracy and justice worldwide. It accepts no grants, contracts or funding of any kind from any government or government-related organization or from any other foundation, corporation or institution. It is funded entirely by the family philanthropy of the founding chair.

HARDY MERRIMAN,
Senior Advisor
Hardy Merriman has worked in the field of strategic nonviolent conflict since 2002. He was director of programs and research at ICNC from 2005 to 2007. Prior to this, Mr. Merriman worked for three years at the Albert Einstein Institution and contributed to and edited the book "Waging Nonviolent Struggle: 20th Century Practice and 21st Century Potential" by Gene Sharp.

Originally from the Twin Cities, Minnesota, Althea Middleton-Detzner graduated from the Lola and Rudy Perpich Center for Arts Education with concentrations in Music and Creative Writing. She received her B.A. in International Affairs and Development Studies in 2005 from the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University.
