An ICNC blog on the people and power of civil resistance

Evgeniya Chirikova

Since the summer of 2006, Evgeniya Chirikova has been a central actor in a grassroots movement to save Khimki forest in Russia. Forced to flee her country in 2014 following a confrontation with Putin’s regime, she is now based in Estonia where she manages a social media portal activatica.org for supporting grassroots groups in Russia. Evgeniya has been recognized internationally for her activism, including as recipient of the Women of Courage Award from the US Embassy in 2011; the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2012; and ICNC’s James Lawson Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Practice of Nonviolent Conflict in 2013.
