Minds of the Movement

An ICNC blog on the people and power of civil resistance

Yelyzaveta Tarasenko

Yelyzaveta Tarasenko is a Ukrainian journalist, activist, and volunteer. She is from the Donetsk region, where the war began back in 2014 and over the years has reshaped ideas of safety, home, and what feels normal. Working in a Kharkiv-based media outlet, she views the war both from personal experience and from dealing daily with how the war occupies the public space. Her writing focuses on war, culture, and gender-sensitive issues, with particular attention to how armed conflict affects everyday life, communities, and vulnerable groups. She combines journalistic practice with activism and volunteer work, documenting wartime realities while addressing questions of representation, inclusivity, and social responsibility. Yelyzaveta holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics (2025) and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree.
