“اليوم بدأت رحلة الشقاء و الصراع من أجل البقاء” هذا ما قاله لي الحقوقي البحريني هاني الريس في أول يوم وطأت قدمي منفاي من أجل التقديم على اللجوء السياسي، وهي عبارة صادقة، ولكنها قاسية، لذا عقدت العزم على أن أحول هذه الرحلة الى رحلة تحد وإنجاز.  واليوم أرى ذلك، رغم مرارة وقسوة الغربة والابتعاد، إلا إن الخبرة والتطور الأكاديمي والشخصي الذي وصلت له اليوم والذي لم أكن لأحصل عليه في بلدي ولو قضيت سنيناً أخرى، خفف من هذه المرارة .

اليوم، أجلس خلف شاشة حاسوبي في شرفة منزلي في مدينة بجنوب فرنسا حيث استقريت الآن. أكتب عن تجاربي والتحديات التي واجهتها بعدما أجبرت على مغادرة مصر قبل نحو ثلاث سنوات. وبينما أكتب هذه السطور وأتأمل فيما حدث، أدرك أن ما مررت به لم يصبح بعد جزءاً من الماضي. تأخذني أفكاري إلى ثلاث سنوات مضت وأكثر، حينما كنت جالسة في شرفة منزلي بوسط القاهرة، أتأمل ما ينتظرني وأتساءل كيف يمكنني التعافي ومواصلة عملي الصحفي. في ذلك الوقت، لم أتخيل أبداً أنني سأصبح جزءاً من الشتات وأواصل رحلتي من بلد آخر، أبدأ من نقطة الصفر.

On the afternoon of Saturday, April 3, 2021, I received that life-altering call. My mother had passed away in Egypt. The caller offered words of solace, urging me to remain steadfast and pray for her soul, while cautioning against any thoughts of returning to Egypt, knowing all too well the regime’s penchant for imprisoning dissenters upon arrival. At that moment, the reality of my exile hit me with full force. It was exile in its truest form—I was robbed of the opportunity to lay my mother to rest. They stripped away my right to exist in my homeland, denying me the chance to bid a final farewell at her graveside. […]

Nous étions une vingtaine des riverains, membres de l’association, venus de différents villages situés à près de 120 kilomètres des plantations sucrières dans le centre du Cameroun. Le 6 juillet 2023, nous nous sommes rassemblés pacifiquement devant le siège d’une multinationale dans le quartier administratif de Yaoundé pour manifester notre mécontentement face à la destruction de nos cultures par les pesticides déversés dans leurs champs par les avions de l’entreprise. En signe de protestation, nous avons déversé les cultures contaminées et visiblement brûlées—feuilles de manioc, arachides—devant la direction générale de l’agro-industriel. […]

We were around twenty local residents, members of the association, from various villages located around 120 kilometers from the sugar plantations in central Cameroon. On July 6, 2023, we gathered peacefully in front of the headquarters of a multinational company in Yaoundé’s administrative district to demonstrate our dissatisfaction with the destruction of our crops by the pesticides dumped on the fields by the company’s planes. In protest, we dumped the contaminated and visibly burnt crops-cassava leaves, groundnuts-in front of the agro-industrial company’s head office. […]
