Minds of the Movement

An ICNC blog on the people and power of civil resistance

James L. VanHise

James L. VanHise is a retired IT manager who now spends most of his time reading and writing about nonviolence. As a young man, his world view was transformed when he read an article by Gene Sharp claiming that nonviolent conflict, strategically employed, could enable ordinary people to achieve social justice and overthrow tyrants. He has since written extensively about Sharp, and has published stories about civil resistance in The Progressive, Peace Magazine, Waging Nonviolence and elsewhere. James, who holds a BA in English from Wake Forest University, now lives in Raleigh, North Carolina (USA) and blogs about nonviolent strategy and tactics at nonviolence3.com.
