Learning Impacts from the 2017 Curriculum Fellowship Program
Selected impact assessment shared by the ICNC Curriculum Fellows who taught courses on civil resistance or courses with a significant civil resistance component in the Fall 2017 and Winter/Spring 2018.
Hasan Habes
Hasan Habes taught “Civil Resistance” at Åbo Akademi University in Vaasa, Finland. The amount of students who had “some” or “substantial knowledge” of civil resistance quadrupled over the course of the class. His students also came to understand that a high degree of repression does not mean that a movement will fail.
Bunly Soeung
Bunly Soeung taught “An Introduction to Civil Resistance and Nonviolent Movements” in an ICNC Online Course in Svay Rieng, Cambodia. His students gained substantial knowledge of civil resistance and a greater nuance in their understanding of civil resistance actions and nonviolent discipline. Students recognized, for example, that protests and going out on the street constitute only a very limited part of a rich and diverse repertoire of civil resistance actions.
