Cathy Smith serves as Treasurer of ICNC’s France-based partner, the Institute for Nonviolent Movements, launching in Fall 2025.
Cathy joined the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict (ICNC) in 2015 as Events Manager, overseeing logistics for the organization’s flagship Summer Institute for the Advanced Study of Nonviolent Conflict—formerly the Fletcher Summer Institute—an intensive, executive training hosted in partnership with the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in Boston, MA.
Her role soon expanded to Operations Manager, where she directed daily operations, events and contracts, and managed grants and contractor relationships. She led ICNC’s Translations Program—the most comprehensive global repository of civil resistance resources in multiple languages. She also supported ICNC’s academic and field programs, including ICNC’s online course platform, logistics for Regional Institutes, and supporting Fellows in the Learning Initiatives Network (LIN).
Cathy co-managed the Activist Education Grants program, created from the LIN initiative, funding online courses, educational materials, translations, curricula, and civil resistance workshops for grantees.
Cathy also helped facilitate an organizational transition that ensured continuity of business workflows and projects.
Now based in Paris, France, Cathy continues to advise on ICNC programs while managing operations, contracts, and finances. She previously worked as an extension and outreach coordinator at NC State University and holds a BA in Mass Communication.
