Nicola Barrach-Yousefi is Senior Advisor for Civic Initiatives and co-author of the book Glossary of Civil Resistance: A Resource for Study and Translation of Key Terms (2021). Nicola joined the ICNC team as a Program Associate in 2008. As Director for Civic and New Media Initiatives she created the Civil Resistance Learning Initiatives Network, a pilot program that developed independent civil resistance educational activities of local grassroots organizations. She was also the Product Owner for ICNC’s People Power iPhone app (2012). Nicola spearheaded the launch of ICNC’s vast translation program and fostered a vibrant alumni community of one of its flagship programs: the Fletcher Summer Institute for the Advanced Study of Nonviolent Conflict. Nicola’s research at ICNC focused on the nexus between human rights law and civil resistance. She is the founder and executive director of HumanRightsConnected, a web based non-profit organization focused on making human rights law accessible and actionable for movements.
Nicola holds a JD from the University of Paris, Panthéon-Sorbonne, a Master’s degree in Political Sciences and Development Studies from the Institute for Political Studies (Sciences-Po) in Paris, and a Master’s degree in Human Rights and Humanitarian Law from the University of Paris, Panthéon-Assas.
